1) Why is it important for every Victorian to be Global-minded?
As Victorians, we grow in an environment deeply enriched with culture and the school's own traditions as we are slowly groomed into future leaders in three different aspects: a Gentleman, a Professional and a Sportsman. As teenagers that grow up in a first world country where everything is treated for granted, it is essential to let the future generations to understand how truly fortunate they are and they should be grateful for whatever thats is given to them, and at the same time, working at their best to contribute to the society. Being global-minded allows us to understand the world around us as we discover the differences in one another but find much unique qualities within each one as well.
2)How may global-mindedness in you be evident to your friends?
By making an effort to participate in events such as international friendship day, or even to converse in other languages with schoolmates of different races. Global mindedness can also be seen from visitations to foreign classmates' houses, and understanding why they moved to Singapore instead of their home country.
3)What do you think best fosters the development of global mindedness in a person?
Schools and government may organize celebrations for certain cultural festivals in Singapore to give the citizens of other races an insight to the culture of that specific ethnic group. This will allow people to appreciate the beauty of the culture and learn to accept and understand one another. This will thus make many more much more curious to find out more, therefore becoming much more interested.
4) Briefly comment on the comment
''A global mindset combines an openness to and awareness of diversity across cultures. It respects how different countries do things and had the imagination to appreciate why other cultures do them that way. But a global mindset is also incisive- to push the limits of one's own way of doing things''
I agree. With a global mindset, we will be able to respect and appreciate the different cultures and traditions of other people in the world. Their ways of interpretting things may be different from us but we should always learn to appreciate others as everyone tend to do things differently.
